Islamabad: A groundbreaking development is on the horizon for urban mobility in Pakistan as a local aviation company prepares to launch the country’s first air taxi service. This innovative mode of transportation is set to revolutionize travel by providing swift and efficient journeys within urban areas.
Based in Karachi, the aviation company is not only introducing Pakistan’s inaugural air taxi service but also expressing keen interest in expanding its operations to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. A company spokesperson revealed that a booking app for the service will be launched in the upcoming week, further enhancing convenience for prospective passengers.
Imran Aslam Khan, speaking to Arab News, shared that aviation companies in Dubai and Riyadh have already shown interest in the unique business model. The company showcased its Austrian-manufactured aircraft equipped with a German Jet A1 Fuel Engine during an event held in Karachi. The unprecedented nature of the venture has piqued the curiosity of international aviation companies, leading to potential collaborations and invitations for presentations.
Collaborating with a foreign partner, the Karachi-based aviation company, known as Sky Wings, is poised to launch the air taxi service within the next ten days, pending necessary formalities and certification from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The fleet of Sky Wings consists of eight aircraft, including models such as Seneca, Cessna, and the recently acquired Austrian single-engine four-seater DA-40 Diamond aircraft. These versatile aircraft have a passenger capacity ranging from two to six individuals, ensuring flexibility in meeting varying travel requirements.
In its initial phase, the air taxi service will commence operations from Karachi to destinations in the Sindh and Balochistan provinces, as highlighted by Imran Aslam Khan, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sky Wings Aviation.
Functioning akin to a charter flight operation, the air taxi service will enable users to conveniently reserve rides through an online platform or mobile app. Sky Wings is no stranger to the aviation industry, as they currently operate chartered flights, ambulance services, and pilot training programs. The COO emphasized that the air taxi fares will be cost-effective in comparison to traditional chartered flights, providing a more economical option for travelers.
While specific details and pricing are still being finalized, it is estimated that a round trip from Karachi to Nawabshah will cost approximately Rs180,000, while a journey from Karachi to Gwadar is expected to be around Rs430,000.
Sky Wings holds a positive outlook on the air taxi service, foreseeing substantial demand among business travelers seeking efficient and comfortable transportation solutions.
With ambitions to become a transformative force in Pakistan’s transportation industry, the aviation company aims to offer passengers an unparalleled travel experience, combining style, comfort, and efficiency in reaching their destinations.
